How to Upgrade your Joomla 2.x to 3.x

Joomla! 3.0 was released a long time ago, so if you want to upgrade your website from Joomla 2.5 to Joomla 3.x, you can follow the steps below. Let's take a look!

Step 1- Backup your Site.

Whenever you are going to upgrade your Joomla, make sure you take backup of your site.

That is why because if you find any issue after updating your site, you can restore tour site from the backup.

Step 2- Update Extension/Templates

This step is important because you have to make sure that every Template and Extension is up-to-date while upgrading.

Go to your Joomla control panel.

Go to Extension Manager and click on Manage Tab, here you see all the installed Extensions/Templates. Use filters to find Templates and Extensions.

Check the available version of all Extensions and Templates before upgrading the site whether they support the available version.

Step 3- Update Templates and set site offline

Go to Extension, click Templates.

Here you can see the default Templates and all list of available Templates you have.

Contact the Template developers and make sure that the Template you are using is compatible with new version of Joomla.

Before going to update Joomla.

Go to global configuration and set the site offline to 'yes' and click on save and close.

Step 4- Updating Joomla

After updating each Extension and Template, you’re utilising, peregrinate to your Components and  Joomla! Update.

Go to Extension, Manage and click update.

There you see the available versions of Joomla update.

Click install the update.

Step 5- Uninstalling Templates and Set Site Online

After the site is upgraded to Joomla 3.x.

Go back to Extension Manager and click on Manage Tab.

Use filter options to see the installed Joomla previous version template.

Then uninstall it.

Go back to global configuration and set the site offline option to 'No.'

Click save and close, and you are done.!
